About Katy

14199239_10210368904961662_8541457529882464072_nHello, and welcome to my collection of news stories, features and columns. I’m a graduate student at The University of Colorado Boulder, where I’m pursuing a master’s degree in journalism.

I earned my undergraduate degree at Elon University in 2015, where I majored in journalism and minored in digital art. During my time as an undergraduate, I was actively involved with The Pendulum, Elon’s student news organization, where I held the positions of senior reporter, photo editor, managing editor and opinions editor over the course of four years.

In 2014 I tackled the state government beat for The Raleigh News & Observer, covering the ins and outs of the North Carolina General Assembly. I previously completed an  editorial internship at Eye Magazine, a graphic design publication in London, where I learned how to maintain a successful digital presence.

As a graduate student, I covered general assignment stories and performed investigative work for The Denver Post. Then, I switched gears for an internship at Rocky Mountain PBS.

  1. Tips for Shoveling Colorado Snow —
Thanks for the shoveling tips but I have found that sweeping the snow with a broom is easiest for all but the wettest of storms. I have been sweeping, rather than shoveling, for 20 years. It doesn’t strain my back and the broom can be used to clear snow off of the car as well. I have also found sweeping to be faster than shoveling.
